Do you fear that a Swiss resort would be soulless in summer? You can’t even imagine how misleading such an idea can be. Verbier Festival became a major destination for cultural tourism attracting crowds from all over the world.
The two-week long festival of classical music held in a picturesque Swiss Alpine area celebrates its first quarter of the century. Valery Gergiev, the new music director of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, opened the festival on the 19th of July. Star conductor kicked off the festivities with a joyous program of works by Mendelssohn, Bernstein, Saint-Saëns, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Shchedrin.
As always the festival has a lot to offer to the admirers of Russian repertoire. Do not miss performances by Denis Matsuev, Valery Gergiev, Choir of the Mariinsky Theatre, Maxim Vengerov, and Migran Agadzhanyan.
