In this episode of the podcast Talking music we will discover theory, mystery and beauty of Indian Classical music. In dialogue with pianist Olga Jegunova you will hear Indian Classical musician Freny Nina who will be playing an instrument called sitar while talking about Raga and Dhrupad – the two important genres of Indian music.
There are 2 main traditions of the Indian classical music : Carnatic music from the South of India and Hindustani music from the northern, eastern and central regions. Today I would like to talk about two particular aspects of Indian music – its identity though musical language, its theory and the purpose. Although so very diverse, Eastern and Western cultures are at the same time very similar as they touch upon same values such as the meaning of music, its content and impact on the listener.
