The Russian Seasons festival, designed to introduce foreigners to Russian culture, opened on January 7, 2019 at the Berlin Philharmonic, where soloists of the opera troupe, choir and symphony orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater under the direction of the maestro Valery Gergiev will perform Tchaikovsky opera Iolanta.
For the very first time, the Russian Season, named in honor of the legendary tours of Sergei Diaghilev’s ballet troupe, took place in Japan in 2017 and drew more than 3.5 million spectators in 42 cities around the Asian country. In 2018 Italy hosted more than 300 events with the participation of many well-known Russian groups.
This year over 400 different cultural events are planned in 70 German cities with more than 100 outstanding Russian cultural institutions involved, including the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Mariinsky Theatre, the All-Russian Youth Orchestra under the direction of Yuri Bashmet, the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, theatres such as the Vakhtangov, “Helikon-Opera”, “ET CETERA”, “School of the modern play” and many others.
