150 works from prestigious private collections in Russia and Western Europe will be offered, many with exceptional provenance and exhibition records, a few with interesting life stories. Among 19th century pictures are masterpieces by such first tier artists as Aivazovsky, Levitan, Polenov, Surikov, Shishkin, as well as landscapes by Dubovskoy, Zankovsky, Shilder, and Gine.
One of the highlights of the twentieth century section is the 1907 landscape, “Birch Tree. Spring”, by Robert Falk which comes from the Moscow collection of the homeopathic doctor Varshavsky. This is shown together with colourful still-lives by Mashkov and Lentulov, impressive portraits by Baranov-Rossine and A.Makovsky and Caucasian scenes by the battle painter Roubaud.
The Soviet period features the collection of the art historian Tatyana Prokhorova who headed the Department of Exhibitions at the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR for more that 40 years. Works by Efanov, Gritsai, Reshetnikov, Kugach, Ugarov, Nalbandian, and Abakumov will also be offered for sale together with, ”Still-life with a Bouquet of Roses”, (1947), by Stalin-prize winner, Alexander Gerasimov.
The Non-Conformist Art is represented by Krasnopevtsev, Plavinsky and Anatoly Zverev whilst contemporary Russian artists such as Vladimir Brainin, Nikas Safronov and Andrey Bilzho also feature.
