Masterpieces made in the Icon Painting Studios at St Elisabeth Convent in Minsk are known far beyond the borders of Belarus. The artists there take masterpieces by Byzantine and Russian icon painters of the 12th-15th centuries as the model for their own work.

This workshop on icon painting is led by the artists of St Elisabeth Convent and offers a unique insight into the mystery of icon painting in keeping with ancient traditions. Participants will learn the basics of ancient icon painting techniques using egg tempera and pick up techniques and methods under the supervision of an accomplished icon painter.

Participants must be over 15 years old. Please do not wear light-coloured/new/expensive clothes, as paint drops are possible.

The workshop is preceded by a talk about icons at 11am – see separate event for more information and booking.

Both the talk and the workshop are repeated on three consecutive days – Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 April.

These events are in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire
