Cosmoscow International Contemporary Art Fair is a highly anticipated art festival uniting undisputable trendsetters of the art scene: Russian and international galleries, artists, experts, art collectors and connoisseurs from all over the world. Since 2014 it is an annual September event with its own place in an international art calendar. The latest edition of the fair took place at the Gostiny Dvor on September 6-8, 2019 representing 67 Russian and international galleries and welcoming nearly 22,000 guests.
This year the fair will take place at Gostiny Dvor on 10-13 September and can be visited following the guidelines for safety in the light of the COVID-19. Some events will be available online. Here are some of the highlights of the programme.
The Performance Programme will be offered by Open Studios of Winzawod. Open Studios is a platform that combines the principles of a workshop, residence and art school based on one of the leading Russian art institutions. The project was launched by the Winzavod Fund for the Support of Contemporary Art within the framework of the New Names strategic division. It offers an up-to-date space for creativity and work, an educational program, and an opportunity to fit into a professional environment. For the artists, participation in a project is an opportunity to take their first steps in the professional and commercial field under the guidance of experienced experts. For gallery owners and curators it offers acquaintance with future stars at the stage of their formation. The visitors are introduced to the process of creating works of art.
This year there will be something exciting for the kids as well.Cosmoscow x Vremena Goda Kids Zone will be open on the territory of the art fair with various educational activities for children from 4 years old, including performances by contemporary artists, classes in creative workshops and much more. Workshops will be held by the children’s Studio K1ds Art Club. The creative laboratory will invite the youngest visitors of the fair to try their hand at drawing and painting, architectural composition and sculpture. The program focuses on engaging children in the creative process and developing emotional intelligence through art. In addition to permanent workshops, Cosmoscow x Vremena Goda Kids Zone will host daily master classes and performances specially created for the fair by contemporary Russian artists: Irina Korina, Alexandra Paperno, Ivan Gorshkov and Artem Zavadsky.
The recurring theme of this program is the question of how can we coexist and get united despite fully or partially closed borders and growing cultural isolationism. The organisers have prepared a series of talks to explore the theme.
