Set on the famous coastline of the Golfo dei Poeti, the seaside town of Lerici and the neighbouring Cinque Terre have been a magnet for poets and composers alike, from Shelley, Byron and Lawrence to Wagner. Conductor Gianluca Marciano launches a new festival of music and poetry in his home town, with a programme inspired by the sea and the poets who were drawn to it: Suoni del Golfo. With violist Maxim Novikov, Marciano is founding a new concept for emerging musicians: Orchestra Excellence.

Conductor Gianluca Marcianò has been increasingly in demand since his operatic debut with Croatian National Opera in 2007. Praised in the Sunday Times for his “unfailingly theatrical and idiomatic conducting”, Marcianò has strong ties with the opera houses in Zagreb, Minsk, Sassari and Prague, and within the UK, English National Opera, Grange Park Opera, Longborough Opera and the English Chamber Orchestra. Marcianò is the current Chief Conductor at the Armenian State Opera, the Artistic Director of the Al Bustan Festival in Beirut and he is recently appointed as the Music Director of the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad. Upcoming engagements include a new production of Tosca at Grange Park Opera to inaugurate their new venue at Horsley. Opera Now : “Behind the boyish charm, he is clearly a little wild at heart. His career has been entirely and delightfully unconventional to date, and his music-making is infused with a wide-eyed sense of discovery.”
