Brodsky and the Fate of Three Women is the launch of a new book about Joseph Brodsky that looks at his life through the biographies of three extraordinary women. Presented by the author, Mark Yakovlev.
The heroines of the new book by Mark Yakovlev are Professor Valentina Polukhina, Annelisa Alleva and Evelina Schatz. Their personal accounts shed new light upon the art and life of the great poet and Nobel laureate. The book features rare archival materials from personal collections and includes a critical essay on “Brodsky-Baryshnikov”, an acclaimed solo performance by Mikhail Baryshnikov directed by Alvis Hermanis. Several drawings made by the poet (including the portrait of his beloved mouser Mississippi!) are published for the first time.
The presentation will be followed by the screening of “The Pendant, or One and a Half Englishwomen”, a poetic video essay about Valentina Polukhina by Mark Yakovlev.
Professor Valentina Polukhina, a heroine of the book and one of the world’s leading experts on Brodsky, will take part in the presentation.
