The Old Vic presents an original play written by Lucy Prebble and directed by John Crowley (Brooklyn, The Goldfinch) which tells the story of Alexander Litvinenko, the ex-FSB officer who was poisoned in London in 2006. A shocking assassination in the heart of London. In a bizarre mix of high-stakes global politics and radioactive villainy, a man pays with his life.
The play, based on on the Guardian/Faber book by Luke Harding follows Litvinenko and his wife Marina on their journey from Moscow to London which ended in the A&E department of a North London hospital as doctors try to solve their mystery patient’s illness.
At this time of global crises and a looming new Cold War, A Very Expensive Poison sends us careering through the shadowy world of international espionage from Moscow to Mayfair.
