Moscow non-profit arts institution V-A-C Foundation has curated an exhibition of contemporary Russian art as part of the Venice Architectural Biennale.  ‘The Way of Enthusiasts’ features works that interact with and critique the urban landscape by a  number of established contemporary Russian artists including Yuri Palmin and Olga Chernysheva.

Already attracting media attention is Arseniy Zhilyaev’s installation ‘Laundry’, a reconstruction of a  fully functioning Soviet-style Launderette  to the historic Casa dei Tre Oci. In this project the artist brings memories of  collective Soviet life to Venice in a socio-political experiment that poses the question ‘will the local community use it as intended, or will the artificiality of the situation and presence within an art exhibition undermine its original function?’

The exhibition is curated by Katerina Chuchalina and Silvia Franceschini and runs from 29 Aug – 25 Novemeber 2012.

Casa dei Tre Oci, Giudecca 43, Venice

Tuesday to Sunday, 10.00–18.00m, free admission
